...developing your natural potential

DofE Residentials with TESP

A hearty thanks to all our participants in 2017, with your help the woodland at Frodsham Hill is much more accessible and a great deal healthier. The Woodland Trust would like us to thank you on their behalf. Well done to all. On a personal note it was great to have you stay with us, we met some really nice young people that made the residentials great fun to do.

When is the next residential?

We currently have two dates for 2018

6th-10th August

20th-24th August

What will I do on the residential?

We will be working in a woodlands in the Cheshire countryside where we will be carrying out valuable conservation work for the Woodland Trust.

  • This includes repairing eroded paths and steps
  • Cutting back overgrown hedges and felling small self seeded trees
  • Controlling invasive plants such as Holly or Rhododendron
  • Looking after nursery trees by removing tree guards & stakes
  • Creating wildlife habitats
  • Erecting woodland furniture such as signage, fencing and gates

You don’t need any previous experience, just the will to help conserve some of Cheshire’s natural beauty.

Some of the work may be strenuous, but we won’t ask you to do anything that you may find beyond your physical abilities.

Where will I stay on the residential?

The accommodation for the residential will be a log cabin at Queen Charlotte's Wood Scout Camp in Alvanley near Chester. The cabin has separate sex dormitories, toilet and shower facilities along with a dining room and a fully equipped kitchen.

The residential is fully catered and all participants will contribute in some of the cooking duties and clearing up after meals.

How many others will be on the residential?

Each residential is normally about ten to twelve people. Each group will have a dedicated, DBS (CRB) checked TESP trainer. The trainer will ensure you are well informed about the vital conservation work that you will be carrying out and teach you any skills that you need to complete a particular task.

What happens when I'm not doing conservation work?

It's not going to be all hard graft, we want you to enjoy your residential at TESP. We will run some fun activities such as learning new Bushcraft skills, team games and in the evenings some fun, relaxing stuff too.

What do I need to bring with me?

You will need to provide yourself with suitable outdoor clothing, that you don’t mind getting a bit mucky and we recommend a pair of stout boots, ideally with steel toe caps, but these aren't essential and a sleeping bag. A full kit list will be sent before the event. We will provide suitable work gloves or other PPE for the task you are carrying out and any tools and equipment.

A member of the TESP team will be on site for the full duration of your stay.

How much does it cost ?

The cost of the residential is £259, including food and accommodation for 4 nights 5 days. Payment in full is required to secure your place.
